The Pier Bar and Taqueria
~~ TERRACE LEVEL, NEAR SECTION 222~~
For those not as familiar with Petco Park, the odd infield sections are on the 1st base side while the even are on the 3rd base side. The Pier is adjacent to the Western Metal Supply Building on the Terrace level, near section 222. In 2012 this location was the home of Bull Taco and previously a Sushi Bar.
When you first enter, you are greeted with warm smiles and a terrific interior design. There are a wide variety of seating areas: sofas, stools, bar, long tables, round tables, high/low options, etc. Nearly every location has a view of the field as well as flat screen TVs.
There is a full-service bar that includes specialty cocktails, wine by the glass, draft or bottle beer, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages. Wayne enjoyed the Bloody Mary while Rebecca (and later Wayne) tried the High Tide Margarita – which was amazing! Not the typical sweet margarita, likely due to its special ingredients: Hornitos Plata Tequila, Triple Sec, fresh lime juice, Jalapeno Simple Syrup, and Passion Fruit Puree. YUM!
We decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and plentiful outdoor seating. We were so pleased to be greeted by our dear friend, Hanz! He had previously worked at The Baja Bistro and at Hodad’s but with The Pier in need of some top notch servers, Hanz was moved to The Pier this year. Right off the bat we felt comfortable and assured that things would go well.
Hanz got us to our seats and we chatted with him and told him about our project. He took our orders and then went over and got the floor supervisor, Miguel, who talked to us about The Pier.
Miguel complimented the staff on being very professional and committed to giving fans the best experience possible. They are staffed by DNC. The specialties of The Pier are the Chicken and Carnitas Burritos. They recommended the Sculpin Beer to be paired with the carnitas as it will add a little bit to the spicy flavor. The lobster roll pairs up well with the Red Trolley or any other light beers like Mordelo or Pacifico. The Pier is considered more of a tequilleria and they want to give you the relaxing feeling like you’re at a pier by the ocean or bay. El Jimador is one of the biggest tequilas that are sponsoring The Pier right now. Specialty drinks are Hide Tide and El Padre Margaritas.
Wayne enjoyed the Camaron de Coctele – Baja style (included avocado) shrimp cocktail ($6) and a Chicken Burrito – served with black beans, cabbage, pico de gallo, cheese and sour cream ($8.50). Rebecca enjoyed the Carnitas Burrito – served with black beans, cabbage, pico de gallo, cheese and sour cream ($8.50). We also shared an order of Chips & Salsa ($5.50) – good but a bit pricey for what you get. The burritos were a good value and very tasty.
Here are some of the terrific views you will enjoy from the outdoor terrace.
Overall, we recommend The Pier. Good food, attentive staff, and a terrific view. You might want to stroll up there during Batting Practice to ensure you get a seat of choice.
